Makespace Architects are an established London practice with a long tradition of working with community organisations, local authorities, housing associations, and home owners. We listen to client needs and aspirations, and work collaboratively through the design process. Working alongside an experienced team of designers and construction consultants, we approach projects with pragmatism and vision to respond to the unique and individual needs of each.
Shahed Saleem RIBA is the founder and director of Makespace, and has developed the practice's expertise in residential, community and faith buildings from its base in London's East End. He works closely on issues of heritage and cultural significance, and works alongside Historic England on such projects. He further researches aspects of identity, culture and architecture through a design studio that he teaches at the University of Westminster, and his role as a Senior Research Fellow at the Bartlett School of Architecture.
Makespace have been nominated for the Victoria and Albert Museum Jameel Prize 2013, and the Aga Khan Award for Architecture 2016.
